Central Railway announces 930 local trains in Mumbai will be cancelled for 63 hours, causing a temporary halt to the city's main transportation

The Central Railway will begin a 63-hour mega block starting at midnight on May 30, which will cancel 930 local trains. This large block will make it easier to extend and widen platforms at two key stations: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in southern Mumbai and Thane station.

The large block, necessary for extending platforms at CSMT and widening platforms at Thane station, is set to finish at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

During this time, disruptions will occur on the Central Railway due to its usual operation of over 1,800 local train services daily across four corridors (Main, Harbour, Trans-Harbour, and Uran). These services meet the commuting requirements of more than 3 million people.

According to PTI's report, the Central Railway will eliminate 930 local train services, with 161 on Friday, 534 on Saturday, and 235 on Sunday being cancelled. Additionally, the Railways will reduce the journey length of 444 suburban services, comprising seven on Friday, 306 on Saturday, and 131 on Sunday. A combined 446 local train services will start from different stations, with 307 on Saturdays and 139 on Sundays.

In addition to the impact on local train services, long-distance trains are also likely to be disrupted during the block period. The railway industry has urged commuters to refrain from using regional trains unless it is essential.

As per the PTI report, some mail-express and suburban trains will be terminated and originate at shorter distances from Wadala, Dadar, Thane, Pune, Panvel, and Nashik stations.
