In death, 35 year old gifts life to five
The patient was a brain-dead accident victim, donated his Heart, Kidney, Liver, Cornea.
A city hospital effectively arranged the transfer of five organs, leading to five transplants saving lives in just one day. The 35-year-old from Bhabhar in Gujarat was declared brain dead after a road accident, and their family donated their organs.
A team of counsellors from Marengo CIMS Hospital reached out to the family of the deceased and provided guidance on the option of donating the deceased's organs.
They stated that the patient’s heart, kidneys, liver and cornea were successfully harvested. This resulted in saving lives of multiple recipients.
A team of 35 to 40 doctors and 30 paramedical staff carried out the four transplants.
Dr. Dhiren Shah, the Director of Heart Transplant & Cardiothoracic Surgery and Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) at Marengo CIMS Hospital, confirmed that this marked their 52nd heart transplant.
He further added that they successfully coordinated five organ donations that led to four life-saving transplants in just one day.
