May sees a 10% rise in coal production
Coal production in India increased by 10.15% to 83.91 million tons in May, with Coal India Ltd responsible for more than 80% of the total output.
There was a 10.15% increase in the country's coal production in May, reaching 83.91 million tonnes (MT) compared to 76.18 MT in the same period last year.
In this timeframe, Coal India Limited (CIL) reached a coal production of 64.40 MT (Provisional), showing a 7.46% increase from the previous year's 59.93 MT. In May 2024, coal production by Captive and other entities reached 13.78 MT (Provisional), showing a 32.76% increase from the previous year's 10.38 MT. In the same way, coal shipments in India in May 2024 totaled 90.84 MT (Provisional), showing a 10.35% increase from the previous year's 82.32 MT.
In May 2024, CIL shipped 69.08 MT (Provisional) of coal, showing an increase of 8.50% from the same period in the previous year when it was 63.67 MT. Moreover, there was an increase in coal dispatch by Captive and other entities in May, reaching 16 MT (Provisional), showing a 29.33% growth compared to the previous year when it was 12.37 MT.
Coal companies currently have a combined stock of 96.48 million tonnes of coal. CIL holds 83.01 MT of coal stock, with Captive and other companies possessing 8.28 MT.
