Sunita, Wilmore stuck at Space station till July- What is Nasa's rescue plan?

Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, the astronauts who are testing Boeing's new Starliner spacecraft might experience a delay in their return to Earth due to various issues the vessel is currently encountering.

Since being launched on June 5, the capsule has experienced five helium leaks, five manoeuvring thruster failures and a propellant valve issue. As a result, the crew in space has needed more time than expected.

Nasa has not yet specified the precise date of the capsule's return to the International Space Station (ISS). Even though the plan was for the mission to only last eight days, the engineers faced several problems that caused the return date to be postponed.

Following the rescheduling for June 26, there is currently uncertainty regarding the return date of Williams and her crewmate.

Nasa announced another delay in Starliner's return on Friday. According to a statement, managers of the mission are assessing potential return opportunities following the station's two scheduled spacewalks on June 24 and July 2.

According to Stich- manager of Nasa's Commercial Crew Program, Starliner has the capability to remain connected to the ISS also known as a "mini city in space," for a maximum of 45 days.

According to sources close with flight planning, Nasa has set July 6 as the new target return date for Starliner. This would indicate that the expedition, which was initially planned to last for eight days, can now extend to a month.
