The Supreme Court will consider a request for a re-test of NEET-UG on July 8
The counseling for NEET UG, 2024, which was set to start on July 6, has also been delayed before the upcoming hearing.
The SC of India started listening to various petitions regarding the NEET UG 2024 medical entrance exam controversy on Monday, aimed at requesting a new exam to be conducted. A panel consisting of Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud and Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will review more than thirty petitions on July 8. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, along with Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, will preside over a total of 38 petitions.
Nonetheless, the Central government and the National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting NEET-UG, informed the Supreme Court that canceling the exam would put the future of thousands of sincere candidates at risk without evidence of widespread confidentiality breaches.
The NTA emphasized the Centre's stance, stating that canceling the entire exam would be highly "counterproductive" and greatly "harmful to the broader public interest", particularly to the prospects of the eligible candidates.
The Supreme Court previously rejected a request to stop the planned counseling for entrance to bachelor's programs in public and private medical colleges nationwide. The Supreme Court approved the Centre's decision to remove extra marks given to 1563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates for lost time during the exam and to offer a re-test on June 23.
