Could it be 52.9 degrees in Delhi?
The highest temperature ever recorded in India, 52.9 degrees Celsius, was reported by a weather department in Delhi as of 29th May
As of 29th May, India recorded its highest-ever temperature of 52.9 degrees Celsius, as reported by a weather station. Dr Mohapatra explained that Delhi has 20 monitoring stations, with 14 showing a decrease in temperature and the overall average temperature in Delhi ranging from 45 to 50 degrees Celsius.
Dr Mohapatra stated that experts had traveled to Mungeshpur to inspect the temperature sensor. He also considered that local factors near Mungeshpur could be the reason for this high measurement.
"The maximum temperature over Delhi NCR varied from 45.2 to 49.1 degrees Celsius in different parts of the city. Mungeshpur reported 52.9 degrees Celsius as an outlier compared to other stations. It could be due to an error in the sensor or the local factor. IMD is examining the data and sensors," the IMD said later.
On the second day of record-breaking heat, the temperature exceeded expectations by over nine degrees, surpassing the 2002 record of 49.2 degrees Celsius by more than one degree. The main weather station in Delhi, Safdarjung Observatory, measured a maximum temperature of 46.8 degrees Celsius, the highest in 79 years.
The IMD issued a health warning for Delhi, which has a population of over 30 million. The warning states that there is a high chance of experiencing heat illness and heat stroke in individuals of all ages, particularly emphasizing the importance of being cautious with vulnerable individuals.
