Closing Bell: Sensex, Nifty at record closing high

Sensex and Nifty hit all-time highs on Thursday following strong gains in banking, oil, and auto shares, as well as a record dividend payout from the Reserve Bank of India.

The Sensex closed at an all-time high of 75,420.04, up 1.61 percent from its previous close, while the Nifty zoomed 1.72 percent to a record high of 23,000.00. The Sensex gained 395.8 points, or 1.75 percent, to reach its best intraday level since January 29. The Nifty closed at a record 23,000 level, up 1.64 percent from its previous intraday level.

Except for metal and pharma, all other sectoral indices ended in the green with auto, bank, and capital goods up 2 percent each.
