Five people, 4 of them children, drowned at Bhushi Dam near Mumbai in Lonavala

Local authorities confirmed that a woman and four children drowned in a water body close to Bhushi Dam in Lonavala on Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday, Liyaqat Ansari and Yunus Khan's relatives from Hadapsar, Pune decided to visit Bhushi Dam. Around 3 pm, a group of about 17-18 relatives arrived at the waterfall located behind Bhushi Dam. Because of the rapid increase in water levels caused by continuous rainfall, 10 family members became trapped in the water streams and began to drown. Nevertheless, five individuals were able to evade the current, while five remained unaccounted for.

In light of the seriousness of the situation, the local police, fire department, Shivdurg Mitra Mandal, Apada Mitra Maval, and Vanya Jiv Rakshan Santha quickly arrived at the scene and began a search mission. After the day, three deceased individuals were found by authorities and taken for examination.

Following the start of the monsoon in the region, Police advised tourists to be careful when visiting Bhushi Dam, Ghubad Talab, Tata Dam, Tungarli Dam, Rajmachi Point, Kunegaon, Kurvande points due to heavy to extreme rainfall in the area.

In regards to the rescue mission, Pune Rural Superintendent of Police (Rural SP) Pankaj Deshmukh stated that they had found the corpses of a woman aged 40 and two young girls. An incident resulted in the disappearance of a 9-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy. They appear to be members of a family who fell into a waterfall located two kilometers from Bhushi Dam and drowned in the downstream reservoir.
