Noida International Airport opening postponed, set to be functioning by April 2025
The Noida International Airport, set to become the biggest in India, is planned to be constructed in four stages across 5,000 hectares.
The opening of Noida International Airport (NIA), which was planned to start functioning by the end of this year, is now delayed because of construction delays. Commercial operations at the Greenfield airport are anticipated to start by the conclusion of April 2025.
NIA stated that progress on construction and development at the airport is well underway, reaching key milestones on the path to being operational.
Although NIA didn't provide reasons for the delayed inauguration, sources familiar with the situation suggested that the main cause might be challenges in obtaining certain raw materials that have been affected by the global market.
This project is extensive and intricate, and the upcoming weeks of construction work are pivotal. Progress on the runway, the passenger terminal, and the control tower is well underway. It was recently announced that contracts for ground handling, running commercial areas, and important maintenance work had been granted.
The airport, situated in the Jewar region of Gautam Buddh Nagar district, is one of the Uttar Pradesh government's most ambitious undertakings. Yamuna International Airport Pvt Ltd (YIAPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, is currently in development.
During the initial stage, the second airport in the Delhi National Capital Region will feature one runway and be capable of accommodating 12 million passengers per year.
After phase 4, there should be a yearly capacity of 70 million passengers, along with two terminals and two runways for passengers.
