Sensex, Nifty close with slight increases
Today's stock market saw the largest one-day increase in terms of percentage for the Sensex and Nifty 50 since January 2, 2021, when both indexes had risen by 5 % each.
Both the Sensex and the Nifty reached new all-time highs, increasing by nearly 4 % each in the trading session. Both indexes closed at new record highs, showing increases of more than 3 % each. Market participants began buying across all sectors again after a month of careful trading because exit polls suggested that the results of the Lok Sabha election might be as expected by the market.
The Sensex started trading 2,622 points up at 76,583.29 compared to its close of 73,961.31 and further increased by 2,778 points, or 3.8 %, to reach a new all-time high of 76,738.89. The 30-share index ultimately ended with a significant increase of 2,507 points, equivalent to 3.39 %, finishing at 76,468.78, with 25 stocks showing gains.
The Nifty 50 started trading 807 points above its previous closing price, at 23,337.90 compared to 22,530.70. In early trading, it increased by 808 points, or 3.6%, reaching a new all-time high of 23,338.70. The Nifty 50 ended the day at 23,263.90, showing an increase of 733 points, equivalent to 3.25 %.
According to data, the Sensex and Nifty 50 saw their largest single-day increase in percentage terms since January 2, 2021, when both indices rose by 5 % each.
Purchasing was not restricted to only big-cap stocks. During the session, investors showed their confidence in the Indian stock market as the mid-cap and small-cap indices also hit new all-time highs. The reason for this optimism is the expectation of stability in politics, consistent policies, and strong economic growth in the country.
The BSE Midcap index reached a new record peak of 44560.97 in the session before ending 3.54 percent up at 44,367.67. The BSE Smallcap index reached a new peak of 48,973.96 before closing at 48,232.30 with a 2.05 % increase.
Adani Ports, SBI, NTPC, Power Grid, and ONGC were the top gainers among the 43 stocks in the Nifty 50 index, with increases of 10.62%, 9.48%, 9.33%, 9.03%, and 7.43% respectively.
Conversely, Eicher Motors, LTIMindtree, HCL Tech, Sun Pharma, Asian Paints, Britannia, and Dr Reddy's Labs all saw decreases in their stock prices on Monday, with declines ranging from 0.03 to 1.34 %.
