The Indian benchmark stock indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, ended in positive territory even with market fluctuations; Metal, real estate, and bank stocks were at the forefront of the indexes.

Stock Market Highlights | 20th June 2024

The Indian stock market's main indexes, Sensex and Nifty 50, closed in positive territory on Thursday following fluctuations in the trading session. Metal, real estate, and bank sectors performed well in the indices, even though there were no clear global signals.

The BSE Sensex increased by 141.34 points, or 0.18%, to close at 77,478.93. The Nifty 50 ended at 23,567.00, up 51.00 points, or 0.22%.
In terms of the overall market performance, the Nifty Midcap 100 saw a 0.95% increase, while the Nifty SmallCap 100 had a 0.61% rise, surpassing the benchmark indices. On Thursday, the India VIX fear index decreased by 2.68%.

The Nifty ended the session at 23,516.0, showing a 0.22% increase. During the day, the Nifty hit a peak of 23,624.0 and a trough of 23,442.6. The Sensex fluctuated from 77,643.09 to 77,100.36 before ending the day at 77,337.59, up 0.18%, or 141.34 points from the opening value.

SENSEX TOP GAINERS AND LOSERS 

  • Biggest winners: Tata Steel (increased by 1.28%), ICICI Bank (rose by 1.05%), Reliance Industries (gained 1.00%), Kotak Mahindra Bank (went up by 0.96%), and Axis Bank (up by 0.95%).
  • Biggest decliners: Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (decreased by 2.24%), Mahindra & Mahindra (down by 2.10%), NTPC (down by 1.26%), State Bank Of India (decreased by 1.03%), and Wipro (decreased by 1.03%).

NIFTY TOP GAINERS AND LOSERS

  • Biggest winners:  Hindalco Industries saw a 2.13% increase, Grasim Industries rose by 2.11%, Bharat Petroleum Corporation had a 1.70% gain, JSW Steel went up by 1.61%, and Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone experienced a 1.45% increase.
  • Biggest decliners:  Hero Motocorp saw a decrease of 2.53%, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries decreased by 2.19%, Mahindra & Mahindra dropped by 2.14%, NTPC fell by 1.34%, and Wipro declined by 1.08%.
