Share Market Highlights 24 May 2024
Sensex and Nifty settle marginally lower after hitting record-highs on profit booking
Updates on today's Share Market opening and Closing bell:
Indian benchmark indices started the day in the red on Friday due to negative sentiment from Asian markets influenced by concerns about 'higher for longer' US interest rates. When the market began trading, the Sensex dropped by 128.06 points to 75,289.98, a decrease of 0.17%, while the Nifty declined by 39.25 points to 22,928.40, also a 0.17% decrease.
The powerful buying force pushed both benchmarks to reach new highs. The Nifty 50 reached a milestone by exceeding 23,000 for the first time, as the Sensex neared the 75,500 mark. Nevertheless, the two indexes trimmed most of their initial gains and ended the day nearly unchanged on May 24. By the end of the trading session, the Sensex dropped by 7.65 points, equivalent to 0.01 percent, closing at 75,410.39, and the Nifty decreased by 10.60 points, finishing at 22,957.10.
